Downton NPT – Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin – January 2010
Welcome to our January Policing update and NHW bulletin. We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
Downton NPT Priorities
Our local policing priorities for the current period are–
- Anti-Social Behaviour in Downton –
NPT officers will carry out targeted patrols of problem areas. These include the Memorial Gardens, High Street, outside Co-op Stores, Moot Lane and The Moot. These patrols to be carried out on foot whenever possible.
- Speeding –
Local officers are carrying out regular speed enforcement checks at identified problem areas across the Downton policing area, with the support of Roads Policing Unit and Camera Safety Partnership. NPT officers are continuing to support the ongoing 'Community SpeedWatch' trial which is operating in Woodfalls.
- Introduction of regular Police ‘Surgeries’ (see below)
Police Surgeries
We have now established regular weekly Police surgeries in Coombe Bissett and Woodfalls.
A member of the Downton Policing team will be available at these locations, please call in to report any incidents, discuss local problems, or simply have a chat with local Police.
Coombe Bissett –
Wednesdays 11am-12 – at Coombe Bissett Church as part of existing coffee mornings.
Woodfalls –
Woodfalls Post Office – The Ridge -Mondays – 9am-10am
A similar weekly Police Surgery will shortly commence at Downton Library, timings will be well publicised once finalised.
A338 Roadworks
The major roadworks on the A338 at Downton are now expected to start on 18th January, subject to weather, and are expected to last for nine weeks. Wiltshire Council has amended the scheme and there will no longer be a total closure of the road.
During the period of these works there will be temporary traffic signals in operation and some delays to traffic will be inevitable. Alternative routes via the main road network will still be recommended.
A338 Road Works Update
The A338 road works at Downton which were delayed due to the bad weather and reorganised due to residents’ concerns are now scheduled to commence on Monday 25th January. The A338 will no longer be closed during the works. Instead, traffic will be controlled using temporary traffic lights. The duration of the works will be 9 weeks.
Staffing Update
Our Community Support Officer, Mark BRAND will shortly return to work following illness.
Mark will initially work restricted duties as part of his recuperation but his return will bring our NPT back to full staffing.
Could you help us?
We are currently recruiting Special Constables and volunteers. For more information about the Special Constabulary or Police volunteer roles, please take a look at our Wiltshire Police website or contact Mike ATHIENITES on ext 720 4831.
